Chinese New Year 2014 in the Philippines

I’m not a Chinese but I always join the yearly celebrations of Chinese New Year in the Philippines.

All Chinese national, Chinese-Filipinos and even ordinary Filipinos all over the word will celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival, which also called Lunar New Year.

Good news to everyone living in the Philippines. The date of the celebration of Chinese New Year which be held on on Friday, January 31, was declared a special non-working day. It is based on MalacaƱang's Proclamation No. 655, which enumerates the holidays for the year 2014.

Before the Chinese Year, every family should clean the house and purchase food, including fruits, meat, tikoy nuts, etc, for the festival period. Everyone should have fish on their table, which very important dish in this happy event. They are saying the fish expresses people’s hope of having a wealthy year.

Instead of celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year in your home, you can join the event in Chinatown, Manila. Expect various festivities and offering prepared by the organizers and different business establishments within the area.

Chinatown is located in Binodo, Manila. Actually I really love Binodo. It means for me shopping and food trip. Everytime I'm in this place, I'm craving for the fried siopao, tikoy, Dong Bei Dumplings, pancit or stir fried noodles, pugon-roasted pork, hopia from Eng Bee Tin, pastries from Ho Land Bakery.

Try to walk out around in Ongpin Street, Yuchengco Street.T. Alonzo Street, Salazar Street, Quintin Paredes Street, Ongpin Street, F. Torres Street, and Benavidez Street where you can find sumptuous goodies and exotic dishes..Lucky charms that will bring luck and happiness to your life are also available everywhere in Chinatown.

There are some hotels and resorts in the country that will welcome the year of the Wooden Horse such as Lucky Chinatown Mall, Manila Hotel, Marriot Hotel, New World Hotel, Richmonde Hotel Ortigas, Sofitel Philippine Plaxa, Waterfront Pavilion Hotel Manila, The Manor @ Camp John Hay Baguio City, Diamond Hotel, Makati Shangri-La, Crowne Palza Manila Galleria, Crimson Hotel Discovery Suites, Discovery Shores Boracay, among others.

Happy Chinese New Year to everyone!
