How to get to Mt. Maculot in Batangas

Not only hikers/mountaineers, even an occasional outdoor enthusiasts are now into mountaineering. There are lots of amazing mountains in the province of Batangas. One of the easiest to hike is Mount Macolod popularly known as Mt. Maculot or Mt. Makulot.

If you want to know how to go to this interesting mountain, let me share some information on how to get there.

For Public Transportation:

1. Look for Lemery- bound bus which terminals are found in Cubao, Quezon City and Buendia , Pasay City.  You You can also take bus with a signage Lipa City.

2. Take a Cuenca- bound jeep. Tell the driver to drop you off at Poblacion or just say  you will go to Mt. Maculot. Most of the drivers here know this location.

3. From there, you can just walk or take a tricycle going to the jumpoff point, which is near to the Barangay Outpost.

For Private Transportation

1. If you will bringing your car, you can take SLEX, then Star Tollway.

2. Next, take the Lipa exit and head towards Cuenca via the highway to the left.

3. You can ask people walking around the  area about the exact location of Poblacion. The jumpoff is near the Barangay Outpost.

Note:

a. There are two jumpoffs going to the summit of Mt. Maculot, one for the Rockies and the other is for Grotto.

b. Guide is mandatory (500/ 5 persons for day hike or regular trail and 1000/ 5 persons for the traverse. Additional Php 50/person after 5 persons.

c. It only takes 2-3 hours to summit and roughly 2 hours going down (regular trail)

d.Taking the traverse is bit challenging. You need to crawl, rapel, among others

e. Mt. Maculot is 706 MASL (Rockies) / 930 MASL (summit)

f. Don't forget to bring sunblock or gears that will protect you skin from the direct heat of the sun. 

Additional Information

a. There are vendors selling refreshing buko and sodas along the trail as well at the summit.

b. Get an extra careful when going up to the Rockies

c. There is a parking area near the jumpoffs.

d.  The Trail going to campsite is very steep. Take time to rest your feet. 

e. If you will go here during the weekends, you need to travel as early as you can. A lot of hikers/mountaineers, travelers, among others are going to Mt. Maculot during Saturday or Sunday.
